Deck Lighting
We decided to add a deck to the side of the caravan and then decided to add under lighting to light up the patio area and any matching planters.
Decking Lights
After a bit of investigation, I decided to get some rope lighting that was dimmable to allow us to control the lighting more to our taste and dependant on how light/dark the area is. contacted a company called Harrington Heath who has a range of external lighting that could be adapted for use in under the decking. We decided to go for a Warm White 360 degree dimmable rope light.
The Clips
These were easy to fit and once screwed into the underside of the decking the rope lights just push-fit into the clips which then holds then in place. All the “non-waterproof” parts of the rope lights remain inside the caravan. And only the rope light which is waterproof travels around the outside of the deck.
The Electrics
As we have “Alexa” in the caravan so I decided to use “her” to switch on/off the lighting. To do this I added an Alexa enabled socket connected to the caravan WiFi.
This allows the socket to talk to Amazon Alexa to enable/disable the lights via voice command. This socket is in the boiler cupboard so is out of sight and is not really seen.
The top of the boiler cupboard is where I decided to add the dimmer switch, this is easily accessible and again is out of sight. This allows us more control over the brightness of the lights, and also allows us to make sure the lights are off when they are not needed.
The rope light itself goes down through a vent in the bottom of the caravan (no drilling of the caravan floor was needed) and then around the decking using the clips. this means all the wire connections for the lights are inside the caravan.
